Loie 88 Cole -Bowers' Obituary
Loie Lavon Bowers, daughter of John and Lydia Barnes Rollins, was born April 1, 1920, near Purdy, Missouri. She departed this life Friday, September 19, 2008, in Christian Health Care North, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-eight years, five months, and eighteen days. On August 18, 1936, she was united in marriage to Howard West, and to this union three sons and one daughter were born. Loie married Charles Bowers in 1967, and together they shared many happy years before his passing. In 2000, she married Don Cole, who preceded her in death in 2007. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Joseph West; and thirteen siblings. Loie is survived by a daughter, Beverly Stovall, and her husband, Ronnie, Independence, Missouri; two sons, Ronald West, and his wife, Mary, and Edward West, all of Lebanon, Missouri; nine grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Doylene Walker, of Kansas City, Missouri, and Floy Resor, of Princeton, Illinois; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was raised in the Purdy community and then lived in Eldridge for a few years. She and Howard moved to Southern California in 1950, where in addition to being a devoted homemaker to her family, she also drove a school bus for a number of years. In 1960, she returned to Missouri and eventually moved to Richland where she lived for several years. Later, she moved to Lebanon and made her home. Loie was an active member of Grace Baptist Church in Richland for many years, and enjoyed the fellowship the church offered her. In her spare time she enjoyed doing crochet work and making quilts. Throughout the years, she had entered several examples of her quilting and canning in the county and state fairs and had won several blue ribbons. Her family was very important to her and she greatly enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Loie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and will cherish the memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be at 2:00 pm on Wednesday September 24, 2008 at the Grace Baptist Church, Richland Missouri.Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will start at 1:00 pm until time of service under the direction of the Holman- Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri. A memorial has been established to the Grace Baptist Church.
