Lois Grimes (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Lois Jean Grimes, daughter of Moses Sheridan and Carrie Belle Young Higgins, was born August 8, 1933, near Tunas, Missouri. She departed this life Tuesday, February 15, 2011, in Stoutland, Missouri, at the age of seventy-seven years, six months, and seven days.
On August 8, 1951, she was united in marriage to Clon Grimes, and to this union eight daughters and five sons were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clon, on June 24, 1979; a daughter, Roxie Dunivan; and a son, Mark Grimes.
Lois is survived by seven daughters, Helen Stotts, of Rossville, Georgia, Diana Jones, Dottie Jones, and her husband, Ronnie, Marsha Hazel, and her husband, Bill, all of Lebanon, Missouri, Pam Hudson, and her husband, Victor, of Conway, Missouri, Beverly Frederick, and her husband, John, of Martinsville, Indiana, and Wanda Neher, and her husband, Bob, of Walsenburg, Colorado; four sons, James Grimes, and his wife, Kelly, Lester Grimes, Wilfred Grimes, and Kenny Grimes, and his wife, Misty, all of Lebanon, Missouri; thirty-seven grandchildren; sixty-five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Shirley Ross, of Buffalo, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was raised in the Eldridge area, near Candock, Missouri. After she and Clon were married, they made their home in Laclede County, and lovingly raised their children. Throughout the years, Lois was a devoted and hardworking homemaker to her husband and family.
Lois had professed her faith in Christ and was a member of Taylor Avenue Full Gospel Church.
In her spare time she enjoyed shopping and going to yard sales. She was known as “Granny Grimes” to the people in Stoutland, and enjoyed visiting with her neighbors and friends. Among her favorite foods were Kentucky Fried Chicken and watermelon. She had a great love for animals and was always adopting stray dogs and cats in her neighborhood. Her family was very important to her and she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Lois was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that she will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.
