On September 24, 1960, he was united in marriage to Lois Venola Scott, and they shared the last fifty-three years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Dominque Bennett; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edgar and Dotha Scott.
Carl is survived by his loving wife, Venola, of the home; two daughters, Twila Rowlett, and her husband, Matthew, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Sheila McMillan, and her husband, Rex, of Nixa, Missouri; four sons, Bryan Bennett, and his wife, Mary, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Boyd Bennett, of Rolla, Missouri, Carl Bennett, and his wife, Mary Jo, of Seattle, Washington, and Mark Bennett, and his wife, Christie, of Portland, Oregon; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Melvin Bennett, and his wife, Pauline, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Richard Bennett, and his wife, Mildred, of Republic, Missouri; five sisters, Vivian Nelson, of Lebanon, Missouri, Venita Jemes, and her husband, Clinton, Hazel Walters, and her husband, Randy, all of Grovespring, Missouri, Charlotte Milanovich, and her husband, Danny, of Falcon, Missouri, and Wanda Barner, and her husband, Ron, of Wheatland, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in Laclede and Wright Counties, and attended school there. He entered the military as a young man, and served his country faithfully in the United States Army during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he lived in Washington and Oregon before returning to Missouri. After he and Venola were married, they made their home in the Lebanon area and lovingly raised their family. Throughout the years, Carl worked as a carpenter doing building construction.
Carl had made his profession of faith in Christ and was an active member of Lebanon First Free Will Baptist Church since 1970. He was a very caring man who was always willing to help others.
He greatly enjoyed being outdoors, where his favorite activities were hunting and fishing. He also liked playing the guitar and singing. He possessed a delightful sense of humor and was a great story teller, and particularly loved to share stories of his family history. His family was most important to him and he especially enjoyed time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was also very appreciative of the excellent care he was given both in the nursing home and hospital.
Carl was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and know that he will be fondly remembered as a devoted family man, a talented carpenter, a patriotic soldier, and a Christian friend to many.
Memorial donations may be made to the First Free Will Baptist Church.
