Loren Scheets' Obituary
Loren Leslie Scheets, son of James E. and Delia Mae Handley Scheets, was born March 14, 1924, near Competition, Missouri. He departed this life Saturday, August 8, 2009, in Cox Medical Center South, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of eighty-five years, four months, and twenty-four days. On April 19, 1945, he was united in marriage to Flossie Alene Tracy, and to this union two daughters and three sons were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Helen L. Scheets; a son, Doyle D. Scheets; three brothers, Warren, Lowell, and Wilburn Scheets; and a sister, Hazel Scheets. Loren is survived by his wife, Alene, of the home; a daughter, Brenda Burns, of Lebanon, Missouri; two sons, Lynn Scheets, and his wife, Rena, of Deshler, Nebraska, and Wayne Scheets, of Lebanon, Missouri; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill Scheets, and his wife, Alice, of Lebanon, Missouri; two sisters, Eula Sweeney and Ruth Allen, both of O’Fallon, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born and raised in the Competition, Missouri community, and then worked as a taxi cab driver for the C.C. Camp for two years. After he and Alene were married, they lived in Davenport, Iowa for a few years before making their home in Kansas City, Kansas for forty years. Loren worked as a forklift operator for the Certainteed Corporation in Kansas City, Kansas for many years. After retiring, he and Alene moved to the Phillipsburg community. Loren attended Calvary Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kansas. In his spare time he enjoyed being outdoors where his favorite activities were fishing, camping, hunting, and caring for his yard. He also liked tracing his genealogy and working on cars. He and Alene enjoyed traveling and had taken many trips around the Ozarks. His family was very important to him and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were especially dear to him. Loren was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and will treasure the memories he made for his family and friends. Services will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday August 13, 2009 at the Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Burial will be in the McBride Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday evening 7-8:30pm under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri.
