Loretta Duncan's Obituary
Loretta Louise Duncan, daughter of P. C. and Kathrine Evans Chastain, was born February 7, 1924, near Brice, Missouri. She departed this life Thursday, October 6, 2011, in her home, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-seven years, nine months, and twenty-nine days. On August 2, 1941, she was united in marriage to James Terrel ?J.T.? Duncan, and to this union two daughters and four sons were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J.T., on October 7, 1993; an infant son, James T. Duncan, Jr.; a granddaughter, Tasha (Duncan) Endsley; a daughter-in-law, Jeanne (Lane) Duncan; two brothers, Herbert and Don Chastain; and four sisters, Lela Richardson, Ressie Long, Elsie Turley, and Laverne Dampier. Loretta is survived by three sons, Victor W. Duncan, of Dixon, Missouri, James ?Jim? D. Duncan, and his wife, Pam, of St. James, Missouri, and Richard B. Duncan, and his wife, Susan, of Lebanon, Missouri; two daughters, Sharon K. (Duncan) Wehmhoener, and her husband, Paul, of Kansas City, Missouri, and Janet S. (Duncan) Lawyer, and her husband, Larry, of Joplin, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Jason, , Patrick, Tod Christopher, Ben, Jennifer, and Jessica; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Lewis, of Plano, Texas; four sisters-in-law, Donna Chastain, of Lebanon, Missouri, Betty Chastain, of McClouth, Kansas, Neva Rounds, of McPherson, Kansas, and Margaret Rice, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in the Brice community, near Lebanon, Missouri. After she and J.T. were married, they made their home in Lebanon, and lovingly raised their children. Throughout the years, Loretta was a devoted homemaker to her husband and family. Loretta made her profession of faith in Christ early in her life and was a charter member of Taylor Avenue Church of God. She had been an active member of Highland Park Church of God for many years. In her spare time she enjoyed playing board games and card games, and particularly liked Uno. In her earlier years, she enjoyed doing embroidery and crocheting. She was an avid reader and had a large book collection. She also liked picking blackberries, fishing and spending time at their lakeside cabin. Her family was always the center of her life and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Loretta was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them during her lifetime.
