Lou Wheeler (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Lou Alice Wheeler, daughter of Harold “Buck” and Anna Thompson Moulder, was born December 21, 1935, in Moberly, Missouri. She departed this life Monday, December 21, 2015, in her home, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty years.
On April 5, 1958, she was united in marriage to W. Paul Wheeler, and to this union two sons were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Jeffrey Alan Wheeler.
Lou Alice is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years, Paul, of the home; a son, Joe Wheeler, and his wife, Ann, of Lebanon, Missouri; a daughter-in-law, Lu Wheeler, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two grandchildren, Matthew Wheeler, and his wife, Danielle, of Superior, Wisconsin, and Bethany Wheeler, of Iowa City, Iowa; as well as a host of other relatives and many, many friends.
She was raised in Kansas and then moved with her family to the Phillipsburg, Missouri community, where she graduated from Phillipsburg High School in the Class of 1953. She then attended Stephens College in 1954 and 1955, and earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Missouri in 1957. After she and Paul were married, they made their home in various locations including, Joplin, Missouri, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Memphis, Tennessee, Sedalia, Missouri, Coweta, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In August of 1981, the family moved to Lebanon, Missouri, and made their home. Lou Alice was a devoted homemaker to her husband and family, and also was very supportive and helpful to her husband in their business endeavors.
Lou Alice professed her faith in Christ at an early age, and was an active member of First Baptist Church in Lebanon, where she served in various capacities. She was a member of the church choir, Tom Luthy Small Group, the Senior Adult A Sunday School Class, Chairman of the Funeral Committee, and served on the Guest Services group.
She was a longtime member of Chapter EO, P. E. O. in Lebanon. She was very involved in volunteer work with many organizations including, Red Cross Blood Drives, Meals On Wheels, Relay For Life (American Cancer Society), hospice, and worked as an election judge. She was extremely dedicated to and supportive of the Lebanon Concert Association for a number of years. Lou Alice became the heart and soul of many of the organizations she belonged to and supported, and always gave her best effort to see that everything was done well. Through the years, countless families benefitted from her organizing of the funeral dinners within her church. She loved to travel, enjoyed the arts, particularly going to Broadway musicals, and was an avid reader. Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed having time with her grandchildren. She always encouraged those around her to reach for their “highest and best” and was willing to put forth “hard work” to promote any group in which she was involved.
Lou Alice was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that she will be fondly remembered for her love of family, her devotion to her church, and her many hours of volunteer work. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
