Lowell W. Bennett, Sr. (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Lowell W. Bennett, Sr. was born October 14, 1953 in Iowa City, Iowa to his parents, Dallas Bennett and Mary Marie (Stewart) Bennett. He passed into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 in his home in Lebanon, Missouri. At the time of his passing, he was seventy years, three months and twenty-three days of age.
Lowell spent most of his life in the Lebanon area and attended Lebanon Schools. He entered the Army National Guard at age seventeen and proudly served his country for over twenty years. While in the National Guard he served in Germany and Europe. Following his retirement from the National Guard, he returned to Lebanon. Lowell then had a long career with Laclede County Road and Bridge as a heavy equipment operator.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Bennett of Lebanon, Missouri; his step-daughter, Tracy Lamkin-Smith of Phillipsburg, Missouri; his sister, Helen Grimes of Lebanon, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; a special friend, Cory Terry of Lebanon, Missouri; and his former wife, Linda Durreman.
Lowell was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; his son, Lowell Wayne Bennett, Jr. on December 30, 2023; and his brother, Jeff Bennett.
His favorite hobbies were hunting, trapping and fishing. He loved being outdoors in the Missouri Ozarks. He also enjoyed planting a wonderful garden and enjoying his harvest. He shared his produce with family and friends and also canned the vegetables he grew to enjoy later.
Lowell was also talented in music. He played old country and gospel music on the guitar and mandolin. He not only played for the enjoyment of his family, but also played at his church, Pleasant Grove Church. Playing these cherished songs brought him and others so much peace and joy.
Lowell was a kind and good man. His life revolved around his family and he loved them so very much. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and know that his family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories they made with him.
Funeral service for Lowell W. Bennett, Sr. will be Friday, Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. at Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday from 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
A memorial has been established and donations may be left at the funeral home.
