Lowell L Brown (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Lowell Lee Brown, son of Lee H. and Ola Boan Brown, was born September 2, 1937, near Montreal, Missouri. He departed this life Tuesday, May 13, 2014, in Cox Medical Center South, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of seventy-six years, eight months, and eleven days.
On August 18, 1962, he was united in marriage to Gretchen Ann O’Dell, and to this union one son was born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Grant Fieldon Brown in 2013; three brothers-in-law, Virgil Miller, Don Rogers, and Charles O’Dell.
Lowell is survived by his faithful wife of fifty-one years, Gretchen; a son and daughter-in-law, Drs. Jeffrey and Carolynne Brown, of Somerville, Massachusetts; two sisters, Jean Miller and Frances Rogers, both of Lebanon, Missouri; a sister-in-law and her husband, Steve and Nancy Scott of Lebanon; and brother-in-law and his wife, David and Gail O’Dell of Edith, Missouri; many nieces and nephews who thought of him fondly; and also a multitude of other relatives and friends.
He was raised in Camden County, near Montreal, Missouri, and graduated from Camdenton High School. He then moved to Lebanon, where he worked in the grocery business for a few years. Once he and Gretchen were married, they purchased Quality Cleaners, which they have operated for over fifty years.
Lowell made his profession of faith in Christ and was a long-time member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.
Lowell served on the Lebanon Park Board where he was President for several years. He was a longtime member of the Lebanon Optimist Club, and was very involved with Babe Ruth Baseball in Lebanon, coaching in the 1991 World Series. He also served as coach to many baseball teams while Jeff was growing up and they later enjoyed coaching together. He loved being outdoors, taking long walks in the woods with their faithful dogs Star and Molly, fishing, adding to his special collections, dominating crosswords of any difficulty, and most of all, enjoying the company of and conversations with his precious and clever grandson, Grant. He had a great appreciation for nature and liked spending time at their cabin in the woods. Later, he enjoyed wildlife photography and had taken many beautiful pictures that reflected the magnificence of God’s creation. His family was very dear to him and he was very proud of his son and his accomplishments both within his career and as a father and son.
Lowell was a loving and fun husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a loyal and empathetic friend. We celebrate his life and know he will be fondly remembered as a devoted family man, a dedicated businessman, an interested civic leader, and a good friend to many.
Memorial donations to the Hillcrest Baptist Church - Family Life Center may be left at the funeral home.
