Loy Turner's Obituary
Loy Turner, age 87, of Bolivar, Missouri passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2009 at his home after complications from a stroke. He was born October 12, 1921 in Smallett, Missouri to Omar Turner and Della Wilson Turner. He served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II including the Pacific Theater. He married Vivian Peterson on April 15, 1943 in Ava, Missouri. Loy worked for the Gates Rubber Company in Denver, Colorado from 1953-1962, farmed in Wheatland, Missouri and Polk County from 1962-1979, was Custodian for Wheatland High School in 1977-1978 and custodian at the Sports Facilities for Bolivar High School from 1979 until retirement in 1995. He received the 1993 Missouri Outstanding Older Worker of the Year Award from the Governor’s Advisory Council on Aging while working for Bolivar High School. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; Leo Turner, Norman Turner, Louis Turner, and a sister; Helena Frost. Loy is survived by his wife of 66 years; Vivian Turner of the home, one son; Norman Turner and his wife Sharon of Nevada, Missouri, a daughter; Lana Seigneur and her husband Fred of Sterling, Virginia, six grand-children; Eric Turner, Mark Turner, Sean Headrick, Regan Headrick, Erin D'Agostino, and Sherry Bell, ten great grandchildren; Brock Turner, Bree Turner, Brett Turner, Lydia Turner, Hannah Turner, Paul Headrick, Sam Headrick, Stormy Klein, Misty Klein and Nicholas Bell. A visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00pm, Thursday, March 12, 2009 at the Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, Missouri with Full Military Honors provided by the AMVETS Post #114 of Flemington, Missouri at 7:00pm.
