Lula Kent (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Lula Mae Kent, age 77, of Bolivar, Missouri departed this life on Monday morning, January 7, 2013 at Select Specialty Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.
Lula was born on February 11, 1935 in Fair Play, Missouri, the daughter of Harrison Mustain and Dora Blanche (Mitchem) Mustain.
If you asked Lu where she went to school she’d say “every school around here”, but she graduated from Bolivar High.
On July 6, 1962 Lula was united in marriage to Eugene Albert “Pinky” Kent at the First Christian Church in Bolivar. With this union came a son; Michael, a son; Kevin born in 1964 and a daughter; Jayne was born in 1965. Lula was always a giver and loved to help people. She and Pinky anonymously provided milk for the school children for many years until word got out and then they did it anyway.
Lula was an active member of the First Christian Church in Bolivar, the Polk County Genealogical Society, the Polk County Historical Society, the SBU Boosters, and the Rebecca Lodge. During her 51 years of employment at Roweton’s Home Center in Bolivar, she was honored as Employee of the Year by the Bolivar Rotary Club. Lu could tell you everything about the store, what was on the shelves, what she could order for your appliance and anything else that a person may want to know about a particular item or project. Lu enjoyed traveling; she had been to most of the U.S. and Europe. She enjoyed germinating seeds and was known for being quite good at it. After sprouting however, Lula didn’t have any interest in raising the seedling and would give them as gifts. As it was stated before, Lu was a generous person; she often took special interest in the children of the community and, with a mother’s love, would look out for their best interest. The children that were especially close to Lu were given a Little Red Wagon.
Lula was preceded in death by her husband; Eugene, her brother; Tom Mustain and his wife Connie, her brothers-in-law; Jerry Witt, and Charles Toelle, her sister-in-law Helen Rice, and her parents.
She is survived by her daughter Jayne Dobbs and her husband Darren of Mountain Grove, Missouri , two sons; Kevin Kent of Fair Play, Missouri, Michael Kent and his wife Aline of Pelham, North Carolina, four grandsons; Michael Kent Jr., Jonathan Kent, David Kent, and Allen Dobbs, five great-grandchildren; Shawn Kent, Merci Kent, Chris Carter, Brad Carter, and Lauren Carter, two brothers; Ted Mustain and his wife Ginger of Hemet, California, Robert Mustain and his wife Judy of Brighton, Missouri, two sisters; Shirley Trammell and her husband Bud of Bolivar, Missouri, Cookie Witt of Ash Grove, Missouri, her sister-in-law; Evelyn Toelle of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
