Lulabelle Matney's Obituary
ulabelle Matney, daughter of Randall and Goldie Fern Garrison Shields, was born February 27, 1934 in Louisville, Illinois. She departed this life Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, Poplar Bluff, Missouri at the age of seventy-four years, four months and one day. On February 26, 1951, Lulabelle was united in marriage to Charles Matney and together they shared forty-seven years until his passing on May 17, 1998. Lulabelle was also preceded in death by her parents; as well as two sisters, Helen Jenkins and Eula Faye Darr. She is survived by two daughters, Wanda Matney, of Piedmont, Missouri, and Debbie Reisch and her husband, Jim, of O’Fallon, Missouri; one son, Charles Matney, of O’Fallon, Missouri; three grandchildren, Danny Matney, Jill Matney, and John Reisch; two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Katherine Marie Matney; two brothers, John Shields, of Lonedale, Missouri and Paul Shields, of Fredricktown, Missouri; a sister, Norman Jean Null, of Overland, Missouri; several nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and many friends. Lulabelle lived in Illinois until moving to St. Louis with her family at the age of nine. While living in St. Louis, she was employed at McDonald-Douglas for twenty-nine years. In 1990, Lulabelle moved to Piedmont, Missouri and remained there until her death. Lulabelle was of the Baptist faith. In her spare time, she enjoyed growing flowers, as well as gardening and canning her home grown vegetables. Lulabelle was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she has created for her family and many dear friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2008, in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Mansfield. Burial will be in the Star Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until service time under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Mansfield, Missouri. Return to top
