Luther L. Millard, son of Louie Luther Millard, Sr. and Alice Broyles
Millard, was born May 1, 1912, in Des Moines, Iowa. He departed this life Thursday, January 13, 2011, in Christian Health Care North, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety-eight years, eight months, and twelve days.
In 1936, he met and married Edna Peterson in Minnesota, and to this union three sons were born.
On November 2, 1984, he married Norma Josephine Wright Hester, and they shared the last twenty-six years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Orville and Russell Millard; and two sisters, Alvena Schmidt and Velma Shafer.
Luther is survived by his wife, Norma Josephine, of the home; three sons, Melvin Millard, and his special friend, Leanne Bierman, of Mountain View, Missouri, Ronald Millard, and his wife, Marcia, of Gaffney, South Carolina, and Wayne Millard, and his wife, Terri, of Brownton, Minnesota; a step-daughter, Mary Jo Officer, and her husband, Jim, of Conway, Missouri; a step-son, Norman Hester, and his wife, Sylvia, of Mission Viejo, California; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Dean Millard, and his wife, Norma Jean, of Phillipsburg, Missouri; a sister, Louise Walker, of Turlock, California; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Millard, of Mountain Grove, Missouri, and Helen Millard, of Oroville, Washington; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He farmed in Minnesota for a number of years, and then worked for Bell Telephone Company in Minneapolis. After retiring from the telephone company, he moved to Phillipsburg, Missouri. Once he and Norma Josephine were married, they made their home on her farm in the Phillipsburg community.
Luther was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Lebanon.
In his spare time he enjoyed collecting things, especially knives.
Luther was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all of his family and many friends.
