Lynval D. Sipes (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Lynval Dale Sipes, son of Garland Dale and Velma Oliver Sipes, was born September 30, 1939, in Forest City, Missouri. He departed this life Monday, October 5, 2020, in Missouri Veterans Home, in Warrensburg, Missouri, at the age of eighty-one years, and five days.
On June 2, 1973, he was united in marriage to Sandra Lee Fry, and they shared the last forty-seven years.
His parents preceded him in death.
Lynval is survived by his wife, Sandra, of the home; two daughters, Shere Andersen, and her husband, Craig, of Olathe, Kansas, and Lynnette Jarrett, and her husband, Derrick, of Iberia, Missouri; a son, Michael Coates, and his wife, Kathleen, of Overland Park, Kansas; seven grandchildren, MacKinze, Sarah, Austin, Russell, Kyle, Logan, and Eryn; a great-grandchild, Keaton; three sisters, Linda Morris, of Lincoln, Nebraska, Carol Kierstead, and Vicky Sipes, both of St. Joseph, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in Northwestern Missouri and entered the military at the age of twenty. He served his country faithfully in the United States Navy for four years. He was stationed in San Diego, California or on the aircraft carrier, the Bon Homme Richard. He was an air traffic controller at the beginning of the Vietnam War. During his tours of duty, he was able to travel to Hawaii, Hong Kong, Japan and many other countries. After he was honorably discharged from the Navy, he lived in California for a while and then moved back to Missouri, where he worked as a Purchasing Agent in St. Joseph, Missouri. It was there he met his wife, Sandra. He worked in a bank in Kansas City and then later was employed as a mail carrier for sixteen years. In 1991, he and Sandra bought a farm outside of Stoutland, Missouri. Once they sold their farm they moved to a farm near Phillipsburg, until moving into Lebanon. He later worked at O’Reilley Auto Parts as a deliver man.
Lynval followed the Methodist faith and tried to be a good Christian man who was kind, gentle and loving.
He loved children and animals, particularly horses and liked riding. He and Sandra had many cats and dogs through the years. He also enjoyed music, especially gospel and country and Elvis Presley was his favorite singer. His family was very dear to him and he liked visiting with his family and friends, and loved teasing his grandchildren and other children.
Lynval was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that his family and friends will hold tight to the memories he made for them during his lifetime.
