Mae Caffey's Obituary
Mae Ellen Caffey, daughter of Lee Ander Dell and Nellie Catherine Leach Ware, was born November 28, 1921, in Neosho, Missouri. She departed this life Sunday, October 25, 2009, in her home, near Phillipsburg, Missouri, at the age of eighty-seven years, ten months, and twenty-seven days. On December 23, 1939, she was united in marriage to John Lloyd Caffey, and to this union one daughter and one son were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John, on June 26, 1998; and three brothers, her twin, Ray Allen Ware, Roy Dual “Pat Ware, and Lee Ander Ware, Jr. Mae is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, J. D. and Lauretta Caffey, of Conway, Missouri; a daughter and son-in-law, Loretta and Ivan Day, of Phillipsburg, Missouri; three grandchildren and their spouses, Randy and Lori Caffey, Gary and Connie Day, and Paula and Kevin Legan; six great-grandchildren, Alissa Crigger, and her husband, Jered, Jonathan Day, Nathanial and Brandi Caffey, Breanna and Katey Legan; a brother, Richard D. Ware, and his wife, Elsie, of Lebanon, Missouri; two sisters, Betty Jean Zulek, of Marysville, Kansas and Wilma Myers, of Lebanon, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Corene Ware, of Pilot Grove, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born in Neosho, Missouri, and was raised in the Long Lane and Phillipsburg area. After she and John were married, they made their home in the Phillipsburg community and lovingly raised their children. In addition to being a devoted and hardworking homemaker, Mae also worked as a cook and waitress for Carter’s Café and then worked as a cook for Harris’ Café and the Phillipsburg School cafeteria. Mae was a longtime member of New Hope Primitive Baptist Church, near Long Lane. In her spare time she enjoyed quilting and had belonged to a local quilting club. She also liked sewing and doing quilt pieces. Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mae was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday at Holman-Howe Funeral home. Burial in New Hope Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday evening 7-8:30 pm at the funeral home under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Lebanon, Missouri. Return to top
