Mae Sue Hancock, age 88, of Bolivar, Missouri, died, Friday, June 15, 2018 at Citizens Memorial Health Care Facility.
Mrs. Mae Sue Hancock, age 88 of Bolivar, passed away Friday June 15, 2018 at Citizens Memorial Healthcare Facility in Bolivar, Missouri.
She was born on September 14, 1929 in Wayne, Michigan the daughter of Wayne Sterling and Emma (Ammerman) Sterling.
Mae Sue grew up in Bolivar and graduated from Bolivar High School in 1947. She was baptized at Burns bridge as an adult. On December 3, 1950, Mae Sue married John (Johnny) Hancock in Harrison, Arkansas. To this union were born three sons Ronald (Ronnie) William, Steven (Steve) Wayne and Dennis Ray.
Mae Sue was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary and Church of God 7th Day in Buffalo. She stayed in Bolivar with family while Johnny served in the Korean War from 1951-1953. They then moved to California to be with family while Johnny worked on a fruit ranch. In 1956 they moved to Kansas City, Missouri where Mae Sue worked in an office at AT&T. In 1959 Mae Sue and Johnny moved to Bolivar where they resided on their farm until each of their passing.
Mae Sue was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt. She loved her family, friends and neighbors dearly and enjoyed spending time with them. She was an excellent cook and frequently gathered her family around the table as well as brought meals to the field. Mae Sue always had a cat to love on as well as looking at picture books of kitties for entertainment. She has spent countless hours in the garden then canning the fruits of her labor. Mowing the yard and fresh flowers made her so happy. Mae Sue could play the piano beautifully while singing hymns.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Johnny; one son, Ronnie; and a bother in-law, PR Hancock.
Surviving are two sons, Steve Hancock and wife Shelley, of Bolivar, Dennis Hancock and wife Carol of Collins, one grandson, Shannon Hancock and wife Janieca, three granddaughters, Amanda, Ashlee and Veronica; one great grandson, John Wayne (J.W.), and two great granddaughters Emma and Faith all of Bolivar. One brother Kenny Sterling and wife Jessie of Clarkridge, Arkansas and one sister Virginia Hancock of Belton, Missouri along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held at Butler Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, June 18, 2018 with Pastor Mike Blackwell officiating. Musical selections were Amazing Grace, How Great Though Art and Old Rugged Cross. Burial was held at Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Butler Funeral Home of Bolivar. Casketbearers were Shannon Hancock, J.W. Hancock, Prentice Hancock, Blade Hancock, Duane Evans and Jeff Evans.
