Malcolm Burd (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Malcolm George Burd, son of Finis and Florence Turner Burd, was born August 30, 1924, near Long Lane, Missouri. He departed this life Friday, December 7, 2012, in HCR Manor Care, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of eighty-eight years, four months, and seven days.
On July 27, 1964, he was united in marriage to Donna Lurae McDaniel, and they shared twenty-six years before her passing on July 3, 1991.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Lynda Jones; and a son, Douglas Porter.
Malcolm is survived by five daughters, Judie Mansell, of Blue Springs, Missouri, Chris Leer, and her husband, Todd, of Long Lane, Missouri, Carolyn Snyder, and her husband, Steve, of Cowgill, Missouri, Dee Echols, and her husband, Bill, of Round Rock, Texas, and Arletta Hardison, of Warsaw, Missouri; two sons, Dennis Burd, and his wife, Linda, of Hollister, Missouri, and Dallas Porter, and his wife, Donna, of Cookeville, Tennessee; thirty-two grandchildren; forty-three great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Holly Burd Reynolds, of Gladstone, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; his special friend, Helen Wilcox; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was born and raised in the Long Lane community, and attended Buffalo Schools. He then moved to Kansas City, where he worked in the trucking industry as a dispatcher for a number of years. After retiring, he and Donna moved back to Long Lane where they enjoyed their retirement years, and operated a dairy farm for several years.
Malcolm was a member of the Long Lane Lions Club, and enjoyed visiting with his friends. He liked dancing and particularly country dancing, and spending time with his girl friend, Helen. He also enjoyed going to the Rocking Chair Restaurant and caring for his farm. He possessed a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor. His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed all of his grandchildren.
Malcolm was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and know that his family will treasure the wonderful memories he made for them throughout the years.
