Manie Calhoun's Obituary
Manie Calhoun, son of Jim and Essie Curtis Calhoun, was born February 18, 1916, in Wright County, Missouri. He departed this life Saturday, January 21, 2006, in Rocky Ridge Manor, in Mansfield, Missouri, at the age of eighty-nine years, eleven months, and three days. On December 24, 1939, he was united in marriage to Oka Helsley, and to this union one daughter and one son were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Oka, on December 11, 2002; a sister, Tressie Mallory; and a half-brother, Amos Curtis. Manie is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Young, and her husband, Paul, of Rogersville, Missouri; a son, Curt Calhoun, and his wife, Connie, of Mansfield, Missouri; five grandchildren, David Young, and his wife, Lisa, of Rogersville, Missouri, Mike Young, and his wife, Christina, of Marshfield, Missouri, Jim Young, and his wife, Kelly, of Nixa, Missouri, Rhonda Widhalm, and her husband, Duane, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Matt Calhoun, and his wife, Shawnette, of Mansfield, Missouri; twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters, Minnie Benton, of Jerome, Idaho, and Mildred Mallory, of Seymour, Missouri; a brother-in-law, R. E. Helsley, and his wife, Rose, of Mansfield, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Dorothy McGaw, of Mansfield, Missouri; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He lived his entire life in and around Mansfield, Missouri, and was an auto mechanic by trade. He was a people person and loved spending time with his friends. For many years he went daily to the restaurant to be with his good friends. Manie was saved early in his life at the New Hope Baptist Church. He possessed a heart of gold, and always put the needs of others ahead of his own. The last few weeks of his life were spent in the hospital and nursing home. Those that took care of him always said they never saw a more kind and caring person. Manie loved his family very much, as they all loved him, and as long as they live, he will live on through them. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2006, in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Mansfield. Burial will be in the Mansfield Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 7 - 8:00 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Mansfield, Missouri. Memorial contributions to Wolf Creek Building Fund may be made through the funeral home.
