Margaret Hargus' Obituary
Margaret Ellen Hargus, daughter of Pete Alvin and Floy Edna Pool Toland, was born March 8, 1923, near Seymour Missouri. She departed this life Saturday, August 20, 2011, in her home, near Seymour Missouri, at the age of eighty-eight years, five months, and twelve days. On May 22, 1951, she was united in marriage to James Delton Hargus and together they lovingly raised their children on the family farm. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Delton, on December 22, 2004; a son, Dean Wilkerson; and grandson, Herschel Wilkerson. She is survived by her two children, David Wilkerson and wife, Joanna, of Seymour, Missouri, Dolores Chastain and husband, Terry, of Ava, Missouri; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; her brother-in-law, Herschel Hargus and wife, Mary, of Hershey, Pennsylvania; a cousin who was like a sister, Ellen Forster of Seymour, Missouri; as well as a host of other family and friends. Ellen was born and raised in the Seymour community. She moved with her family to Mare Island, California, to work during World War II, repairing military equipment. In 1946, she returned to the area. She was a waitress at Burdette?s, where she first met her husband Delton. After they married, she helped on the family farm while working throughout the years for Mud Grocery Store, Tobin Hamilton Shoe factory and retired from H.D. Lee after several years as a seamstress. Ellen made her profession of faith in Christ, early in her life and rededicated herself to her faith in 1964, joining the Harmony Free-Will Baptist Church. She faithfully served her Lord, giving to others and lending a helping hand without needing to be asked. She was a member of the Burnett Sewing Club for years, helping many of the new moms in the neighborhood. She also enjoyed putting in her garden, feeding hummingbirds, cooking fried chicken, and decorating cakes for family and friends. Nannie always made time for her kids and grandkids, lovingly welcoming each new member through the years. Family was the center of her heart and she the heart of her family. Ellen was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt, and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and the loving legacy, and will treasure the memories she created for her family and friends.
