Margaret Newton's Obituary
Margaret C. (Rice) Newton, daughter of John Wesley and Lovie Ann (Cantrell ) Rice, was born November 12, 1915 in Wright County, Missouri. She departed this life Monday, August 3, 2009 in James River Care Center, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of ninety-three years, eight months, and twenty-one days.
On January 6, 1936 she was united in marriage to John A. Newton in Ozark, Missouri and to this union two sons and two daughters were born.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, on November 5, 1998; her parents; a brother, Cecil Rice; an infant brother; and a sister, Gayle Grigsby.
Margaret is survived by her children, Roger Newton, and his wife, Mary, of Plant City, Florida, Ann Rozell, and her husband, Gary, of Sparta, Missouri, Sue Miller, and her husband, Bill, of Springfield, Missouri, and Mike Newton, and his wife, Gail, of Mansfield, Missouri; nine grandchildren, David Newton, Dale Newton, Sara Croslin, Emily Newton, Tammy Johnson, Jill Ulrich, Keith Miller, Alex Newton, and Chad Newton; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Baker, of Springfield, Missouri; a brother, Joe Rice, and his wife, Nina, of Crane, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many dear friends.
She was born and raised in Wright County, where she and John owned and operated a dairy farm. Besides helping on the farm and being a homemaker she also worked sixteen years at Tobin Hamilton Shoe Factory in Mansfield.
Margaret had made her profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mansfield. She was also a member of the Modern Homemakers Club and was a Wright County Republican Committee Woman.
She was a people person and was very outgoing, she never met a stranger. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and loved gardening.
Margaret was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she has created for her family and friends.
Margaret's family would like to extend a heart felt "Thank You" to the staff at James River Care Center for their care and compassion shown to their mother during her time spent in their care.
Services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, August 7, 2009 in Holman-Howe Chapel, in Mansfield, Missouri with burial in Steele Memorial Cemetery, in Hartville, Missouri. Visitation will be 1:00 P.M. until service time on Friday in the funeral home.
