Marge was married to Robert Earl Wakefield on July 17, 1948. They had two children, Pamela Jayne and John Mark.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Alan Beisswenger of Branson, Missouri; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Fran of Ozark, Missouri; three grandsons, James Spencer of Springfield, Missouri, Luke Wakefield with wife, Becca living in S.E. Asia, Ben Wakefield with wife Britta of Rennes, France; two granddaughters, Anita Watson of Nixa, Missouri and Torri Wilson with husband Jeremy of Taneyville, Missouri; four great grandchildren, Jocelyn Watson of Nixa, Missouri, Zachariah Davis of Taneyville, Missouri, Noah Wakefield of Rennes France, Yoshua Wakefield of Rennes, France and two step-great grandchildren, Kassie and Kendra Wilson of Taneyville, Missouri; one sister, Lois Harris and husband Bill of Kansas City, Missouri; two brothers-in-law, Bill and wife, Delcie Wakefield of Louisburg, North Carolina, and Dick and wife Millie Wakefield of Hartville, Missouri; cousins, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and wonderful friends.
Marge graduated from Waynesville High School in 1946 where she played snare drum in band, sang in many choirs and was in several plays in drama. Following graduation she attended Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, Missouri where she met Bob.
Her various jobs in her life were running a cash register and stocking shelves at a young age in a general store and mill built by her father; a soda jerk in a drugstore; a secretary for a lawyer and, later, for a Red Cross organization in Waynesville. She was a teacher in Louisville, Kentucky, a pastor’s wife, dorm parent and missionary who served in Singapore, Malaysia, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Fiji and other countries.
Among her varied hobbies were gardening, picking wild greens, canning, fishing, sewing, quilting, cooking and entertaining.
Marge loved her family and friends with an unconditional love. Her actions portrayed that love and care. She was a surrogate “mom” to many, adopting them as if they were her own. She was a good listener. She helped guide and assist new missionaries as they experienced culture shock in a foreign land. Marge was known for her great cooking, sharing her recipes with any who asked for them and teaching others to cook. She had a certain aura about her which radiated love and acceptance. She loved to laugh and joke around. Her life was a demonstration of God’s love to all who met her. We celebrate her life and are blessed to call her Mom, Grandma, Meemaw, great-grandma, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousins and, most of all, Friend.
Memorial services for Margie Wakefield will be held Thursday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Hartville. Visitation will begin at 6:30 p.m. prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the International Mission Board and may be left at the funeral home.
