Margorie Batten's Obituary
Marjorie Alberta Batten passed from this life May 12, 2011, at the age of 95 years, 1 month and 10 days. Marjorie was residing in Springfield, being cared for by her loving daughter Valerie Moreland.
Marjorie was born in Bolivar, to James Ambrose and Myrtle Alberta (Munn) Pickel April 2, 1916. She was united in marriage to Vergil C. Batten, Feb 16, 1936. To this union was born two daughters, Valerie Jane and Cynthia Ann.
Marjorie and Vergil resided many years in Kansas City, then moved to California and finally back to Bolivar, where they owned and operated an antique store on south Hwy 13. Most of all Marjorie will be remembered by her family and friends as a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Marjorie was a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Bolivar.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, infant daughter, her sister, and two sons in law, Bob Jones and Buck Moreland.
She is survived by Valerie of the home, two step grandchildren Mark Moreland of Las Vegas, Nev. Kellie Johnson of Fresno, Ca. four step great grandchildren Alexa, Dylan, Colton, and Taylor. A nephew Ronald J. George, Sr. and wife Barbara, great nephew Ron George Jr. and wife Jennie, two great great nephews Ron III (Trey) and Preston. Also a cousin John William Pickel of Kansas City, MO.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm, Monday, May 16, 2011 at the Slagle Cemetery just South of Bolivar, Missouri with Rev. Robert Elder officiating. Services under the care and direction of the Butler Funeral Home of Bolivar. Song Selections will be lead by Ron George Jr. The songs will be ?Amazing Grace? & ?Precious Lord, Take My Hand?. A visitation will be held from 1:30-2:00pm Monday afternoon, just prior to the graveside service, at the cemetery.
