Marie Garner's Obituary
Marie Olive Garner, daughter of Everett Lee and Nettie Arlie(Wood) Gregory was born April 7, 1921 the Coon Creek Community of Wright County, Missouri. She departed this life Monday, October 26, 2009 in Citizens Memorial Healthcare in Bolivar, Missouri at the age of eighty-eight years, six months, and nineteen days.
On October 28, 1939, she was united in marriage to Monroe Harvey Garner, and to this union four children were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Monroe on June 27, 1987; a daughter, Barbara Sue; a grandson, Ronnie Garner; and three brothers, Gene, Donald, and Gerald Gregory.
Marie is survived by her three sons, Bob Garner and his wife, Elma, of Fair Play, Missouri, Randel Garner, Sr., and his wife, Lynda, of Colonial Heights, Virginia, and Russell Garner and his wife, Melva, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Donis Ewing, Kristina Hottes, Randy Garner, Jr., Dwayne Garner, and Gregory Garner; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jesse Gregory and his wife, Aleta, of Springfield, Missouri, and Jimmy Gregory and his wife, Kay, of Rogersville, Missouri; two sisters, Maxine Smith and Arlyene Rippee, both of Hartville, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.
She was born near Hartville and when she was six years old her family moved to Iowa for two years and then returned to Hartville to make their home. She graduated from Hartville High School. After she and Monroe were married they lived in the Western United States for a number of years before moving back to Missouri in l966. Besides being a devoted homemaker to her family, she had also worked at the Wright County Assessor’s Office for ten years and retired in December of 2004 at the age of eighty-five.
She had accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and attended Green Valley Baptist Church.
In her spare time she loved traveling, gardening, quilting, and reading. She enjoyed being with her family and especially spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will cherish all the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends.
Funeral services for Marie Garner will be held Friday, October 30, 2009, in the Holman-Howe chapel at Hartville, Missouri.
A visitation will be held in the Holman-Howe chapel Thursday evening October, 29, from 6-7:30.
Burial will be in Coon Creek cemetery.
