Marie Hill (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Fern Marie Hill, daughter of John F. and Edith Foust Knapp, was born June 14, 1920, near Richland, Missouri. She claimed her promise of eternal life on Monday, October 31, 2016, in Lebanon South Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety-six years, four months, and seventeen days.
In August of 1939, she was united in marriage to John Harvey Hill and to this union two daughters and one son were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John, in 1989; a son, Harvey Hill; a grandson, Collin Dibben; four brothers, Harlan, Henry, Raymond, and Donovan; two sisters, Claudine and Anna Flora; and several nieces and nephews.
Marie is survived by two daughters, Patsy Dibben, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Evelyn Fraley, of Bois D’Arc, Missouri; eight grandchildren, John Boy, Charley, Shawn, Vila, Harvey, Connie, Francie, and Cerissa; a number of great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; many special friends and caregivers including, Nancy Hamilton, Don Strout, Ron Strickland, Gretchen Brown, Dan Paris, and Mary Ann Gravens; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was raised in Pulaski County, Missouri, and received her education there. She became a Licensed Practical Nurse early in her life and began a career in nursing at private doctor’s offices. She then worked at Wallace Hospital, and continued with them when the name changed to Breech Medical Center. Her nursing career spanned over fifty years, and she was very well thought of in the medical field. After she and John were married, she felt very warmly received into the Hill family. They made their home in the Lebanon area and lovingly raised their family. Marie was always a devoted homemaker to her husband and family. Later, she worked as a caregiver and baby sitter.
Marie was a charter member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Lebanon where she was very active in many facets of church work. She had served as camp nurse at the Laclede County Baptist Camp for a number of years. Her faith was always at the center of her life.
She loved music, particularly gospel music, and liked listening to the local radio stations. She enjoyed sports, playing with her cats, and listening to her church tapes when she was no longer able to attend services. Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Marie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. Her family wishes to thank each of you who shared your time in visiting and caring for Marie. May God bless each of you for being a wonderful part in her amazing life. Until we meet again!
