Marie Matchell (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Maggie Marie (Ross) Matchell, daughter of the late Harry and Nola Eaton Ross, was born June 9, 1932 in the Peach Tree community of Piedmont, Mo. At the age of 85, Marie went to her Heavenly home, April 6, 2018, while living at the Citizens Memorial Healthcare Facility, in Bolivar.
She was a faithful and active member of First Baptist Church of Bolivar, MO. She professed her faith at age 12 while attending Peach Tree Baptist Church of Piedmont, MO.
She was united in marriage, October 26, 1951, to the love of her life, John Matchell, for 66 years.
She is survived by her sons, John Jr. and his wife, Brenda of Annapolis, Mo, Steve and his wife, Connie of Siloam Springs, AR and Phil and his wife, Sue of Halfway, MO.
She was a loving and devoted Grandmother to Amy, Brad, Brian, Corrie, Phillip, and Anna. She also leaves behind 10 beautiful Great Grandchildren.
Also surviving is one brother, Ralph Ross of Clubb, MO and sister, Dorothy Weber of Piedmont, MO. Marie leaves behind many loved nieces, nephews, relatives and special friends.
Preceding her in death were brothers, Richard, Eugene, Leroy and Ronnie Ross all of Piedmont MO.
Marie and John served as youth directors of New Harmony Baptist Church in St. Louis from 1958-1967.
They moved their family to Bolivar, Missouri in 1971. Marie worked many years at the church daycare and left a lasting influence on many young lives. After retirement, they served as volunteers for the American Red Cross for 13 years. This also included working disaster relief following 9-11.
Marie volunteered for the last 10 years at CMH Auxiliary Hospital. She was genuinely loved by all who worked with her.
She will always be remembered as a refined and gracious Lady who had the gift of making each individual feel special. She lived her life of unconditional love as set before her by her mother, Nola Ross.
Marie's love for flowers had no boundaries, just like her love for others. Unknown to many, she was a very gifted artist and her home and community were blessed with her gifts.
