Marie Oliphant's Obituary
arie Dee Oliphant, daughter of Dee and Edith Calton Moore, was born July 25, 1924, on the family farm, near Hartville, Missouri. She went to be with her Lord on Sunday, February 17, 2008, at the age of eighty-three years, six months and twenty-two days. On July 25, 1942, she was united in marriage to Darrell O’Dell Oliphant, and to this union two daughters were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Dixie Marie, on September 10, 1943. Marie is survived by her devoted husband, Rev. Darrell Oliphant, of the home; her daughter, Teresa Gale Oliphant, of Hartville, Missouri; a grandson, Adam Stigall, and his wife, Mindy, of Hartville, Missouri; a great-grandson, Dakota Stigall; a step-grandson, Kirby Curtis and his wife, Christy, of Hartville, Missouri; four step-great-grandchildren, Jacquelyn, Alexus, Kylie, and Hunter Curtis. As a child she attended Green Valley Elementary School. Her secondary education was completed at Mountain Grove High School, where she graduated in the Class of 1942. After she and Darrell were married and while he was serving in the military, she worked at Fort Leonard Wood, and in a laundry at San Antonio, Texas. She also worked at the Manes School, as a teacher’s aide. In 1946 she and Darrell built the family home where they have resided throughout their life. Operating the farm alongside of her husband over the years, they milked cows, raised chickens, and had beef cattle. From 1951 to 1955, they owned and operated The Country Store on E Highway. Marie was saved in September of 1946 and was baptized on December 29, 1946. She was a member of the Green Valley Baptist Church, where she was the church clerk for 39 years. As a minister’s wife, serving Christ, and building the church, Marie had also been the secretary of the Wright-Douglas-Ozark Baptist Association for a year. Her family was very precious to her and she loved being with them. In her spare time she enjoyed doing needlework. Crocheting and embroidering, especially making doilies and numerous family names for folks gave her great joy. Marie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, and was a caring Christian neighbor and friend. She will be greatly missed and will forever live in our hearts. We will treasure the memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2008, in the Green Valley Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Green Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Hartville, Missouri. Memorials to the Green Valley Cemetery may be made through the funeral home. Return to top
