Marilyn (Wynn) Holsinger's Obituary
Marilyn “Kay” Holsinger (nee Wynn) of Oak Brook, Il & Scottsdale, AZ was gently taken from us on May 27, 2010. She was the daughter of Calvin and Maxine Wynn of Hartville, MO. Kay is survived by her husband Wayne, devoted daughter Deborah (Daniel) Effrein and granddaughter Amelia - the apple of her eye. She is also survived by her loving mother Maxine (Clyde) Roberts, brothers Terry (Teresa) Wynn, Kent (Leona) Wynn and numerous nieces and nephews.
Kay grew up in the rural town Hartville, Mo., where at a young age her parents and other relatives knew that Kay was destined to be a “city girl”. After attending Hartville High she went on to Missouri State University where she earned a degree in Math. While a student at MSU she became a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority, varsity cheerleader, was voted Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) sweetheart and R.O.T.C. Queen, and was a member of the National Math Honor Society. Most importantly, this is where she met the love of her life for the next 53 years; Wayne T. Holsinger.
Kay married Wayne of Trafford, PA on May 25, 1957. She shared a loving, storybook life through her family, Wayne’s corporate life at Sears and her many friends. Kay lived life to its fullest and often said that she lived the equivalent of five wonderful lifetimes. After college she taught high school math in Springfield and Joplin, MO as well as the Chicago area. Kay and Wayne settled in Oak Brook, IL in 1967. After 20 years of winter snow Kay and Wayne retired to Scottsdale, AZ where they became dedicated members of the North Valley Church of Christ. Kay could never retire and with her penchant for business became President and CEO of Core Builders Inc., a multi-housing construction company in Phoenix, served on the Board of Terravita Country Club and was an honorary “Who’s Who in American Business.”
Always athletic Kay took up tennis in the mid 1970’s and never looked back. She competed in and won many USTA national championships. Kay continued playing at a 5.5 tennis rating until her diagnosis with pancreatic cancer in January of 2009. She fought her disease as she had lived her life; with grace, dignity, and tenacity. Her constant faith and strength through her battle was an inspiration to all around her. She cherished your cards, letters and phone calls but especially your thoughts and prayers. Kay greatly believed in the power of prayer but said, “if Heaven calls I’m ready to follow God’s plan for me.” Kay was a beautiful and loving daughter, wife, mother and grandma. Her love of God and her family was present in all she touched. Kay will be sadly missed. She was loved so very much by everyone. We reluctantly give her up to a more peaceful and painless place with her God in heaven, where we will all now have an amazing guardian angel to watch over us.
Kay said that she will miss her many friends and family, but asked that we not look back, but instead “Think of the wonderful times we had together and, every once in a while, miss me just a little.”
Funeral services for Kay are scheduled for 10:00 AM Saturday June 5, 2010 in Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Hartville, Missouri, with visitation 7-8:30 PM Friday evening June 4, in the funeral home.
