Marion G. Massey (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Marion Gene Massey, son of Orville R. and Florence Irene Berry Massey, was born January 13, 1956, in Hartford City, Indiana. He departed this life Saturday, November 29, 2014, in Christian Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hermitage, Missouri, at the age of fifty-eight years, ten months, and sixteen days.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Curtis, Charles Orville, Jr., and Don Massey; and three sisters, Bonnie Reeves, Flory Putnam, and an infant, Norma Massey.
Marion is survived by a daughter, Shelley Riggert, and her husband, Christopher, of Lebanon, Missouri; two granddaughters, Hayli Detherage, of Louisburg, Kansas, and Daysi Riggert, of Lebanon, Missouri; two grandsons, Dawson Detherage, and Tyler Detherage, both of Louisburg, Kansas; a brother, Chester Massey, and his wife, Rose, of Marion, South Carolina; four sisters, Alma Detherage, of Lebanon, Missouri, Marilyn McCallister, and her husband, Gary, of Springfield, Missouri, Ruth Porter, and her husband, Dave, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Nola Porter, of Charleston, Tennessee; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was raised in the Lebanon, Missouri area, and attended Lebanon R-III Schools. He had worked as a brick mason for several years, and then began working as a truck driver. He continued as a truck driver throughout most of his life.
Marion had attended Glad Tidings Pentecostal Church of God in Lebanon.
In his spare time he enjoyed going to drag races, fishing, hunting, and loved playing the harmonica. He possessed a delightful sense of humor and liked to laugh. He loved his family dearly and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Marion was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that he will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
A memorial has been established and donations may be left at the funeral home.
