Mark Loren Heady (Buffalo)'s Obituary
Mark Loren Heady passed away January 8, 2025. He was born April 5, 1955 to Fredda
Roberta Morrow Heady and Harry L. Heady, both of whom preceded him in death. He is
survived by a brother, Harold Heady of Louisburg. Mark’s grandparents, Fred Ramsey Morrow
and his wife Hattie lived next door to Mark and his mother Fredda, until their passing. He had
several great aunts and uncles in the area and his family was a part of Dallas County history.
Mark spent over thirty years alongside his life partner, Richard “Rick” Bakkum and together they
opened “Hattie’s Place,” an antique store, and participated in antique shows around the country.
Rick preceded Mark in death in 2014. They were members of the Buffalo United Methodist
Church for many years, where Mark had attended as a child with his mother and grandparents.
His great grandparents, W.L. Morrow, Sr. and his wife Sarah, donated the land for the church in
1889 and Mark and his family took great pride and comfort in this church. Except for Mark’s
college years at Missouri State University, Buffalo was home to him and his family for many
generations.
Mark completed a degree in Wildlife Management, then received an R.N. degree at St. John’s
School of Nursing, where he was recognized with the Outstanding Student Award for his class.
He went on to have a successful nursing career at St. John’s/Mercy Hospital for many decades.
All his life, Mark was known for his gentle spirit and fun personality. He was surrounded and
loved by a circle of close friends and will be missed.
