Martha Ann Bishop (Buffalo)'s Obituary
Martha Ann (Whitworth) Bishop, beloved wife of William A. (Bill) Bishop, passed away on April 26, 2024, at age 84 years, and three months. She is survived by sons Archie Bishop, (Becky), of Pleasant Hope, MO; Quinten Bishop (Rebecca), of Tunas, MO; John Bishop (Polly), of Tunas, MO; Susan (Bishop) Duncan (Rod), of Lake Ozark, MO; and Leigh (Bishop) van Zon (Rick), Leawood, KS. Martha was the daughter of the late Paul Stebbins and Dona Pearl (Barclay) Whitworth, and sister to Peggy (Whitworth) Harmon, and was born on the Niangua River, Camden County, MO, on February 4, 1940. Martha was a loving grandmother to Stephanie Myers, Brandy Roller, Clay Bishop, Travis Bishop, Walker Bishop, Cali Gillespie, Cord Bishop, Katie Bishop, Riley Bishop, Daniel Meyer, Jr., Annie Harer, Will van Zon, and Lily van Zon, as well as numerous great and great-great grandchildren. She was happiest when she was surrounded by all of her family at their home in Tunas, MO.
Bill and Martha lived at Branch, MO, where Martha was a homemaker with their young family. Later, she and Bill moved to the family farm in Tunas, MO, where they were dairy farmers for many years. Martha obtained her registered nurse’s license later in life, and worked as an oncology and school nurse prior to her retirement. She had an active social life, including being a Docent at the Camden County Museum, and a member of Red Hatters. She loved gardening and spent as much time as possible in her yard and garden. She was a lifelong member of Hopewell Free Will Baptist Church, and a devoted Christian woman. Her unwavering faith was the guiding principle of her life, and obvious to all who knew her. One of her favorite Bible verses was Philippians 3:10-12, 14:
That I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being made conformable unto his death, if by any means I might obtain unto the resurrection of the dead.
I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Martha will be sorely missed by her friends and family, but all can rest in the knowledge that she is home and safe in Jesus’ arms.
