Martha Carr's Obituary
Martha Carr, daughter of Samuel and Sarah (Bontreger) Headings, was born July 3, 1925, in Whiteside, Kansas. She departed this life Tuesday, August 15, 2006, in St. Mary’s Hospital, in Rochester, Minnesota, at the age of eighty-one years, one month, and twelve days. On October 18, 1955, she was united in marriage to Robert Harry Carr and to this union two sons and two daughters were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Ronald Lee Carr; and a brother, Bill Headings. Martha is survived by her husband, Robert, of the home; a son, Robert Carr, Jr., and his wife, Julie, of Adrian, Missouri; two daughters, Anita Carr, of Springfield, Missouri, and Terri Flynn, and her husband, Jay, of Mansfield, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Nathan Carr, and his wife, Brandy, of Robstown, Texas, Jeff Carr, and his wife, Monica, of Grain Valley, Missouri, Andy Carr, of Adrian, Missouri, Greg Short, and Scott Short, both of Mansfield, Missouri, Joshua Slater, of Springfield, Missouri, Sarah Highley, and her husband, Josh, of Independence, Missouri, and Laura Wagner, of Mansfield, Missouri; a brother Noah Headings, and his wife, Thelma, of Hutchinson, Kansas; a sister, Mary Culbert, of Hutchinson, Kansas; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends. She was born and raised in her family’s farmhouse near Whiteside, Kansas, where she clerked at local grocery stores. After she and Robert were married they lived in Hutchinson, Kansas, and later moved to California. They also spent three years in Japan, and three years in Dodge City, Kansas, before moving to Kenitra, Morocco, where she worked at the Navy Exchange. In 1966 they made their home in Mansfield where she worked at Holmes Ford. Martha was a Girl Scout leader and a member of the Clarence King American Legion Post #128 Auxiliary. She was also a founding member and director of Missouri Bison Association. In her spare time she enjoyed taking care of the Bison and Buffalo Meat Store, and she also loved to sew. Martha was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she has created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 21, 2006, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, Missouri. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 5 - 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Mansfield, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home.
