Martha Louise Dickinson's Obituary
Martha Louise Dickinson, daughter of Melvin Delaine and Marie Helen (Telle) Bacon, was born January 15, 1949 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. She departed this life Thursday, January 18, 2007 in Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, Missouri at the age of fifty-eight years and three days. On December 21, 1974, Martha was united in marriage to Charlie Dickinson, and to this union two sons and one daughter were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; her father in-law- Charles W. Dickinson; and a daughter, Sarah Beth Dickinson. She is survived by her husband: Charles “Charlie” Dickinson, of the home; two sons: David Dickinson and his wife Erin and Chuck Dickinson, all of Hartville; three grandchildren: Megan, Gavin, and Bryna; a brother: David Bacon, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; her mother-in-law: Lola Dickinson, of Hartville; three brother-in-laws: Eddie Dickinson and his wife Ann, Kenny Dickinson and his wife Linda, and Allen Dickinson and his wife Glenda, all of Hartville; three sister-in-laws: Judy Dickinson, Pam Dickinson, and Myrna Wakefield, and her husband Wendell, all of Hartville; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Martha was born in Cape Girardeau and spent all of her childhood there. After she graduated from Cape Girardeau High School, Martha attended and then graduated from Southeast Missouri State University, with a teaching degree. Martha’s first job as a teacher was in the Hartville R-2 School District, where she remained for thirty-one years. After Martha moved to Hartville, she met and married Charlie, and together they lovingly made their home. Martha had made her profession of her faith in Christ, and was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Marshfield, Missouri. She was a devout Lutheran, and was very seriously church minded. Martha was very civically minded. She was a member of the Elmer O. Sellers American Legion Auxiliary Post 45, as well as the Athenians and 20th Century Club; she was also a T.A.R.G.E.T. Member, a Wright County Republican Central Committee person, and was currently operating the Hartville License Bureau. In her spare time, Martha loved visiting with friends and reading many different books, she was also a loving and devoted mother who enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Martha was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will treasure the wonderful memories she has created for her family and many dear friends. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 22, 2007, in the Little Creek Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Steele Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 6 - 8:00 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Hartville, Missouri. Memorials to the Hartville Lions Club Building Fund may be made through the funeral home.
