Martin E. Osborn (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Martin Elmer Osborn, son of Lonnie and Esther McDowell Osborn, was born March 18, 1936, near Lebanon, Missouri. He departed this life Thursday, December 5, 2013, in his home, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of seventy-seven years, eight months, and seventeen days.
On April 9, 1959, he was united in marriage to Betty Marie Filkin, and to this union one son was born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty, in 2002; four brothers, Donald, Thomas Leonard, Ralph, and Jerry; and two sisters, June and Norma.
“Ozzie”, as he was called by his family and friends, is survived by a son, Mark Osborn, and his wife, Heather, of Gifford, Illinois; two grandchildren, Timothy Spoor, of Champaign, Illinois, and Kathryn Kelzer, of Springfield, Illinois; a great-granddaughter, Aleigha Kelzer, of Springfield, Illinois; four brothers, Dan Osborn, and his wife, Bonnie, of Lebanon, Missouri, Darrell Osborn, and his wife, Sherryl, of Nixa, Missouri, Glen Osborn, and his wife, Shirley, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, and Ray Osborn, and his wife, Wanda, of Bolivar, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Bonita Osborn, of Linn Creek, Missouri, and Jean Osborn, of Kansas City, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was raised in the Lebanon area and graduated from Stoutland High School in the Class of 1954. He then entered the United States Air Force and severed in Turkey as well as several locations stateside. While at Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois, he met his future wife, Betty. After they were married, they lived at Whiteman Air Force Base for awhile before moving to Gifford, Illinois. Martin worked briefly for the Goodyear Company, and then became a systems analyst for the University of Illinois. He continued in this career for over thirty-five years, eventually retiring to Lebanon, Missouri in 2010.
He loved bowling and had played on many tournaments across the country. He had served as the city clerk of the Village Board of Gifford, Illinois, for over twenty years. He also enjoyed sports of all kinds, liked playing golf, and was a big Illinois University football fan. He had enjoyed boating and spending time on Lake Pomme de Terre since moving back to Lebanon. Ozzie was very family oriented, loved following his son’s activities and having time with his grandchildren.
Martin was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that he will be fondly remembered as a devoted family man, a dedicated worker, and a patriotic citizen.
Memorial donations to the Parkinson Foundation, may be made through the funeral home.
