Marvin Doc Belt (Seymour)'s Obituary
Marvin Belt, beloved companion, father, grandfather and brother, suddenly and unexpectedly departed this life on Friday, September 11, 2015, in Seymour, Missouri, at the age of seventy-three years and twenty days.
He was born Marvin Doc Belt on August 21, 1942, in Marion County, Arkansas, to William Lorenzo and Lida (Cox) Belt. Over the years, a blended family made Marvin one of twenty-three siblings.
In 1961, he graduated from School of the Ozarks where he supported himself through school by running the dairy at the college. As a boxer in college, Marvin was known as “Double Geared Lightning,” because of his quickness in jabbing. On April 20, 1963, Marvin married Betty Louise Terrill, and to this union two sons and a daughter were born. After sixteen years of loyal service, Marvin retired from the Christian County Road Department.
Marvin was a devoted family man and hands-on Grandpa. He loved the outdoors and had a passion for fishing and hunting anything, especially with his sons and grandsons. Marvin enjoyed putting in a garden every year and sharing his vegetables. In his spare time, he also enjoyed square dancing and playing guitar and singing for fun. Marvin’s favorite pastime was playing cards with the family. He was a good cook too, and would often help cook dinner for his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by siblings, Fern, Manuel, James, Verdon, Odie, Simon, Ethal, Dovie, Clairie, Zenith, Fred, Ed, Bill, Maury, and Jackie.
He leaves behind his devoted companion and mother of his children, Betty Belt, of Seymour, Missouri; son, Marvin Dale Belt and wife, Polly, of Rogersville, Missouri; daughter, Loretta Burgin of Lawton, Oklahoma; and son, Doyle Belt and wife, LaDonna, of Ash Grove, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Dillon Slade, Amanda Chaney, Dalayna Baird, Sadie Slade, Zachary Belt, Gabriel Burgin, Katie Belt and Jacob Belt; and one great-granddaughter, Caroline Chaney; siblings, Arthur and Glenda Belt of Nevada, Missouri; Amos and Marian Belt of Bakersfield, Missouri; Alice and Bill Neal of Caulfield, Missouri, and Barbara and Richard Lamb, also of Caulfield; Sharon and Jerry Teeters, Ernest Joe and Ramona Belt, and Shirley Ann Osborne, all of Hartford, Michigan; too many nieces and nephews to count; and a host of other extended family, relatives, dear friends and neighbors.
Marvin Doc Belt was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a caring and loyal brother and friend. Gone too soon, we take this time on this day to celebrate a life well-lived. Marvin’s love of family created many memories and moments that will be cherished in their hearts forever. He will be sadly missed by all those blessed enough to know and love him.
