Mary Bledsoe Bass (Hartville)'s Obituary
Mary Elizabeth Bledsoe-Bass, daughter of E.L. and Claris Hightower Colton, was born February 12, 1936 in Hartville, Missouri. She departed this life Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at her home in Republic, Missouri, at the age of seventy-eight years, three months, and twenty-nine days.
Beth was preceded in death by her parents as well as Carlos Bledsoe, her first husband and father of her two sons.
She is survived by her husband, John (Sam) Bass of the home; two sons, Bradley L. Bledsoe and wife Debbie of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Randy L. Bledsoe and wife Lori of Belton, Missouri; grandchildren, Michelle D. Bledsoe, Rose Ludeman and husband Apollo, Rebecca Toburen and husband Dustin, Amanda Bledsoe, Sarah Bledsoe, and Thomas Bledsoe; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Ludeman, Addison Ludeman, Amya Ludeman, Ava Ludeman, Stayza Horton, Kelsie Horton, Ethan Horton, Matthew Stockman, and Austin Feely; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Beth spent her younger years living in Hartville and was a graduate of the Hartville High School in the Class of 1954. She attended SMSU in Springfield for a short time before returning to Hartville following her marriage to Carlos Bledsoe. Beth worked with her husband in the Bergman-Miller Funeral Home in Hartville for many years before moving to Jefferson City, Missouri. While living in Jefferson City, Beth finished her Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and worked for Farm Bureau for many years as an Accounting Specialist until her retirement in 1999 after thirty-three years of service.
Beth remained in Jefferson City following the death of her first husband, Carlos, and later moved to Republic following her marriage to John Bass.
Beth was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 76 in Mansfield for over fifty years.
She had accepted Christ as her Savior and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jefferson City. She was active with the youth group and in the choir. She moved her membership to the Battlefield First Baptist Church when she moved to Republic.
In her spare time, Beth enjoyed traveling with John, listening to music, and playing the piano. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching Brad and Randy in their sporting activities. She also was a season ticket holder with the Springfield Cardinals and loved watching the St. Louis Cardinals.
Beth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will treasure the many wonderful memories she has created for her family and many dear friends.
