Mary Broeckelman's Obituary
Mary Ann Broeckelman, daughter of William and Emma Nicholson Williams, was born February 20, 1914, in Clinton, Indiana. She departed this life Wednesday, September 14, 2011, in St. John?s Hospital, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety-seven years, six months, and twenty-four days.
Early in her life, she was united in marriage to Richard J. Broeckelman, and to this union two sons were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Mark Allen Broeckelman; a great-grandson, Joseph Broeckelman; four brothers, Bill, Jim, John, and Chuck Williams; and three sisters, May Fawncannon, Ethel Keepers, and Jane Kenny.
Mary is survived by two sons, Richard Broeckelman, Jr., and his wife, Mary, of Stoutland, Missouri, and Allen Broeckelman, and his friend, Judy Rogers, of Lebanon, Missouri; seven grandchildren, including a special granddaughter, Jacey; a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born and raised in Indiana, and received her education there. As a young woman, she moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she worked as a computer processor during World War II. She then worked for Walgreens before moving to Terre Haute, Indiana, and working for Columbia House Records. After she and Richard were married, Mary was also a devoted homemaker to her husband and family. In 1969, the family moved to Lebanon, Missouri, where Mary worked for the Green Thumb Program in various places in Laclede County, including the Old Jail and at area schools.
Mary had made her profession of belief in Christ and followed the Baptist faith throughout her life.
In her spare time she enjoyed anything to do with sewing and also doing crocheting. She possessed an outgoing personality and enjoyed visiting with her neighbors and friends. She was always there when someone needed her and liked helping others. Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed all of her grandchildren.
Mary was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them during her lifetime.
