Mary "Lou" Cheek (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Mary Louise Cheek, daughter of Jerry and Alta Irene Goldsby Lynch, was born April 26, 1926, near Charity, Missouri. She departed this life Wednesday, August 8, 2012, in Christian Health Care South, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-six years, three months, and twelve days.
On October 29, 1948, she was united in marriage to Hosie R. Cheek, and to this union one daughter and one son were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hosie, on April 5, 1980; and a brother, Malcom Lynch.
Lou is survived by a daughter, Pam Maddux, and her husband, Terry, of Lebanon, Missouri; a son, Greg Cheek, and his wife, Michelle, of Lebanon, Missouri; four grandchildren, Tanya, Devon, Nathaniel, and Jessie; four great-grandchildren, Zach, Brittni, Rylee, and Cohen; a brother, Paul Bloomfield, and his wife, Jean, of Lebanon, Missouri; three sisters, Jueldia Smith, Ellen Cooksey, and her husband, Marty, all of Dillon, Montana, and Jeanette Dampier, and her husband, Don, of Lebanon, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was raised in the Long Lane community, and graduated from Buffalo High School, in Buffalo, Missouri. During World War II, she worked in a laboratory making serums and also ammunition. She attended Lincoln University, where she studied to be a social worker. Lou was a devoted homemaker to her husband and family, and also worked as a social worker both as the director of Lebanon Head Start and for the Department of Aging for a number of years.
Lou made her profession of faith in Christ early in her life and taught Sunday school for many years. She was currently a member of Life Point Church in Lebanon. She was well known for her radio show, “Grandma’s Storytime” on KTTK Radio in Lebanon.
She was adventurous and studied to earn her pilot’s license, as she greatly loved flying. She lived life to the fullest and was extremely good with children. She loved her family dearly and especially enjoyed time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lou was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them throughout the years.
