Mary L. Cowen (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Mary Louise Cowen went home to be with the Lord on December 11, 2018 at the age of 97. She was born on September 10, 1921 in McCullough, Alabama and was the oldest of four children born to Nelson Marion and Bessie Lee Pierce Bryan. A lifelong Alabama native, she grew up in Mobile and graduated from Murphy High School. On September 8, 1940 she was married to James Preston Cowen.
Louise enjoyed sewing and was a professional seamstress for many years before becoming the church secretary of Springhill Avenue Baptist Church. She filled that position for 33 years.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband J.P., a sister Wilonese Prescott and husband Cecil Prescott, and a brother, David Bryan.
She is survived by her daughter Judy Bryant and husband John of Bolivar, Missouri; her son Gerald Cowen and wife Mary of Frisco, Texas; her brother Aubrey Bryan and wife Mary Nell of Fairhope, Alabama. She was the proud grandmother of Kimberly Cowen Lauer (husband Scott), Jana Bryant Horner (husband Doug), and Lara Cowen Foster (husband Russ), and eight amazing great-grandchildren.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Louise will be held in Mobile, Alabama at 11:00 on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Pine Crest Chapel. Visitation will be at 10:00.
