Mary Ellen Grass' Obituary
Mary Ellen Grass, daughter of Arch and Ella Lee Paris Horton, was born March 20, 1923, in Raymore, Missouri. She departed this life Monday, January 22, 2007, in West Freeman Health System, in Joplin, Missouri, at the age of eighty-three years, ten months, and two days. In 1964, she was united in marriage to Robert F. Grass, and together they shared thirty-three years before his passing in 1997. She also was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bill and Bob Horton; and three sisters, Rose Cabeen, Martha Moore, and Edith Nutter. Mary Ellen is survived by a daughter, Mary L. Sammons, of Lockwood, Missouri; two grandchildren, Kathy Murphy, of Kansas City, Kansas, and Carl Sammons, of Independence, Missouri; nine great-grandchildren, Carl, David, Chris, Jesse, John, Wesley, Bennie, Staci, and Kathern; ten great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Calvin Horton, of Lockwood, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Horton, of Golden City, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She was born and raised in the Kansas City, Missouri area. She then continued to live near Kansas City, where besides being a devoted homemaker and mother, she also worked as a waitress and bartender for a number of years. She later moved to Camdenton, Missouri, and then to the Lockwood area. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, playing dice and particularly fishing. Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Mary Ellen was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2007, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Lebanon. Burial will be in Grange Hall Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Services are under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.
