Mary Evelyn Madron's Obituary
Mary Evelyn Madron, daughter of Daniel and Beatrice Griffin Hoover, was born April 21, 1917, in Illinois Bend, Texas. She departed this life Wednesday, April 4, 2007, in St. Mary’s Health Center, in Jefferson City, Missouri, at the age of eighty-nine years, eleven months, and thirteen days. On May 21, 1965, she was united in marriage to Elmer Cecil Madron, and together they shared thirty-six years before his passing on January 4, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Larry Shockley; a great-granddaughter, Madison Reichel; four brothers, Carl “Buster”, Herndon “Shad”, Daniel, and Elmore Hoover; two sisters, Ida Wright, and Virginia Hoover; four half-brothers, Phillip, Abel, Fred, and Frank Hoover; and three half-sisters, Katie Phillips, Lillie Sewell, and Maudie Phillips. Evelyn is survived by three daughters, Virginia Metscher, and her husband, Larry, of Dixon, Missouri, Mary Wolfe, and her husband, Perry, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Dorothy Shockley, of Chamois, Missouri; a son, Cecil Madron, and his wife, JoAnn, of Carlsbad, New Mexico; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Herbert Hoover, and his wife, Kathy, of Yukon, Oklahoma, and Johnny Hoover, and his wife, Rita, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two sisters, Estelle Johnston, of Nocona, Texas, and Myrtle Dunbar, and her husband, J.C., of Illinois Bend, Texas; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She spent much of her life in Texas and Oklahoma and moved to a farm near Linn, Missouri, in 1958. Evelyn was a hard worker and spent several years teaching sewing for Singer Sewing Machine Company, in addition to being a devoted homemaker to her husband and family. Evelyn made a profession of faith at a young age and was baptized. She became a member of the Solid Rock Baptist Church, near Linn, Missouri, in September of 1961. She enjoyed cooking and baking, and nobody could come for a visit without getting a dessert or a meal. Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed all of her grandchildren. Evelyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, and was a caring neighbor and friend. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2007, in the Solid Rock Baptist Church, Linn, Missouri. Burial will be in the Solid Rock Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 5 - 6:30 p.m. under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri. Memorials to the Solid Rock Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund may be made through the funeral home.
