Mary Jane Johnson (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Mary Jane Johnson was born March 14, 1936 and departed this life Tuesday, February 28, 2023 in her home, surrounded by her loved ones. At the time of her passing she was eighty-six years, eleven months and fourteen days.
Mary Jane was born and raised in Lebanon. Missouri and was one of thirteen children born to Walter Appleberry and Lillie Swanigan Appleberry. She graduated from Lebanon High School and on February 23, 1952, she married Everett Joel Johnson. To this union three sons and a daughter were born.
Mary Jane worked for H.D. Lee Company for many years. Following her time there, she worked as a waitress and a cook at Bell Restaurant in Lebanon. She was a fantastic cook and was known for her wonderful pies. She once was called by a staff member of the St. Louis Cardinals to commend her on her delicious pies! After Bell Restaurant closed down, she went to work for Wal-Mart. But her favorite job was being a homemaker and raising her children. She was a wonderful mother and could cook the best meals and desserts.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Everett, on March 15, 2013; her daughter, Janice Faye Johnson; her son, William Wayne Johnson; her grandson, Troy D. Bethel; two great-grandchildren, Kara D. Williams and Autumn Garner; her brothers, Lee, Lonnie, Lloyd D., Clay, Donald, Herbert and Larry; her sisters, Ruby Davis, Betty Cleo Bittle and Shirley Banning.
Mary Jane is survived by her sons, Bobby and Cecil and his wife, Edith, all of Lebanon, Missouri; two sisters, Edith Flanary of Humansville, Missouri and Sharon Monohan of Lebanon, Missouri; thirteen grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren; and twenty-five great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Mary Jane was a member of Community Baptist Church in Lebanon.
In her spare time, Mary Jane enjoyed fishing, playing Bingo, and going to casinos. She deer hunted some and killed a deer with an old shotgun one year. She was a great gardener and grew a lemon and orange tree inside her house. Mary
Jane also loved watching the hummingbirds each year and put out several feeders to attract them to her yard.
Mary Jane loved her family dearly and enjoyed the time she was able to spend with them. The memories created with them will be treasured for years to come.
