Eulogy for Mary Jackson
Mother of Luther Lancaster
Hello
For those who may not know, I am Mary Jackson, Prater, Lancaster, Mobley’s eldest son Luther.
I meet Mom a little over forty six years ago. From the time I first saw her, I loved her. For many years she was my, everything; My caretaker, confident, friend, enforcer of rules, mentor, mother and father. She was always there, even when others took on those roles.
Mary “mom” raised three kids mostly on her own. Raising kids is hard, raising kids without help, must be very trying, especially a Luther, a Selyna and a Leonard. She did it! With the help of a lot of you in this room her family and friends.
Mom was very family oriented and was always drawn to live in the heart of the family; the Moores, the Codys, the Mobleys, the Caswells and others I fail to mention.
I was born with the wonder lust of my father and started my adventures twenty eight years ago. But, when I called home she could fill me in on the details of the entire family to include people I have never met. You could see that in her, I mean the family blood or not. Looking at mom you could see the Mobley’s the Cody’s, the Caswell’s and Moore’s. I see pieces of her when I look at all of the family. That means she is still here in some small way.
Mom always looked at her children as her babies. Karin, my wife reminds me of this when she tells Josephine my daughter of the first time she met her, mom I mean. My future wife and I were in the Frankfurt airport to welcome her to Germany for our wedding. Me standing there as a big proud Soldier and my mom greats me with a tear in her eye and the words “Oh my baby”, I was her baby and always would be! One of my destinies, one I am proud of.
My values, morals, principles and ethics stem from her and the life she lived. The good and bad made her who she was and helped form who I am.
Mom was never to judgmental and accepted most people for who they were. She saw the good in everyone. This is not to say she wouldn’t give you her opinion, she would give you that weather you needed it or not.
Mom could not have been the person she was without her family and friends. Grandma and Grandpa with their work ethic, she adored her parents. She spoke with pride her siblings and family, the Cody’s the outdoor part of the family, the Moore’s the farmers, Art the name I had to answer too as a small boy when mom called me this by accident, Danny, Melody (Jody) and Della the other partners for her adventures.
Adventures, yes adventures. I had not thought of it about it until I had to prepare these words.
Mom lived an adventure everyday of her life. I now realize where that comes from in me. My life with her as mother was an adventure, from the ranches of Texas, the streets of Illinois, and the farms of Missouri. These adventures made her who she was and made me who I am! She did not do it alone she could always count on her family “in laws and outlaws” as she would say. I thank all of you for being there for her.
I have to say to Shirley as trying as it must have been, thanks for being with mom when she passed. I am very grateful that my mom did not pass alone or by herself. That was becoming one of my biggest fears.
Mary “Mom” my biggest fan and champion will be missed; her adventures will be missed, as she goes onto the next adventure.
For me; the words mommy, mommy will never be answered again.
I love you mom and will miss you terribly. Thank you.##imported-begin##Luther Dale Lancaster##imported-end##
