Mary K Liston (Bolivar)'s Obituary
Mary Katherine Liston, age 85 of Bolivar, Missouri passed away on Tuesday evening, May 27th, 2014 at her home in Bolivar.
Mary was born on September 8, 1928 in Emporia, Kansas the daughter of Gomer Lewis and Della Ruth (Morris) Lewis. She grew up a rancher’s daughter in Emporia and also in Higgins, Texas where the family moved while Mary was still a young girl.
She graduated from University of Colorado with a teaching degree and taught elementary education in Boulder, Colorado until starting a family with her husband Dean. Mary followed in her father’s footsteps by starting the Tostamada J Ranch outside Bolivar with Dean after moving from Boulder in 1971.
After their retirement, Mary loved traveling with Dean all over the country; including going to their second home in Estes Park, CO which they enjoyed sharing with family and friends.
Mary was a humanitarian; she was a Co-founder of Meals on Wheels in Bolivar. Mary was very active in the Bolivar United Methodist Church before falling ill. She was known for her quick wit and always being willing to help anyone in need. Mary was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend of too many to count.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gomer and Della Lewis and her husband, Dean Liston.
Surviving is one daughter, Martha Richards of Ft. Collins, CO; four sons, John Liston of Springfield, MO; David Liston of Bolivar, MO; Tom Liston of Aurora, CO and Steve Liston and wife Mary Kathryn of Bellaire, TX; and 4 Grandchildren, Logan Richards, Carson Liston, Luke Liston and Megan Liston.
