Mary Lou Brown (Urbana)'s Obituary
Mary Lou was born in Wood River, Illinois to Avery Everett and Margaret Elizabeth (Trovillion) Broadway. She graduated from East Alton/Wood River Community High School where she met James Richard Brown from Roxana High School. They became life-long friends and rekindled their love and married in 1995.
Mary Lou was a great cook, known for her chicken n’ dumplings, chocolate chip cookies, and pineapple cheeseball. She also crocheted and made quilts. She was a member of the Delta Theta Tau Sorority. As a collector of decorative mice, she soon became known as Grandma Mouse by those who loved her. She was a big part of the Methodist Church including the Methodist Women’s Association, the Prairie Chapel Food Pantry, and the church choir. She also enjoyed feeding and caring for her cats, reading, and working word puzzles. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Everett Dale Broadway; and one sister, Helen Virginia Hanon. She is survived by her husband, James Richard Brown; one sister, Millie Nasello; one brother, Douglas (Susan) Broadway; one daughter, Cindy (Jeff) Valentino; her sons, David (Jennifer) Zimmerman, Dennis (Sue) Zimmerman, and Darin (Jennifer) McCall; many stepchildren, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She will be truly missed by all her family and friends.
Celebration of life Memorial is set for April 7, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church in Urbana, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to the Prairie Chapel Food Pantry, 20414 US Highway 65, Urbana, MO 65767. Cremation rites were accorded under the direction of the Cantlon Otterness Funeral Home of Buffalo.
