Mary Ellen Lynch (Buffalo)'s Obituary
Mary Ellen Lynch, daughter of the late Otis and Clyde (Sikes) Meeks, was born on November 23, 1931 in Charlotte, NC, and departed this life on November 5, 2021 at her daughter’s home in Urbana, MO. At the time of her passing she was 89 years, 11 months, and 11 days of age.
Mary was a native of Waynesboro, GA, and lived most of her adult life in Augusta, GA. She was a beloved mother, sister, nanny and friend. She spent her early years studying business at Kerr Business College and made a life of being a homemaker.
Mary was united in marriage to Jack E. Lynch, lovingly called Papa Jack, on April 24th of 1987. Together, they enjoyed line dancing classes, cruises, family time at the pool and cooking. Mary loved home decor and shopping. She enjoyed painting, but most importantly she loved spending time with her grandchildren. Nanny’s house was always a special place filled with lots of love. Prior to moving to Missouri with her daughter Shonnie, Mary was a proud member of Abilene Baptist Church. Mary was baptized on May 16, 2004 at Abilene Baptist Church. She had a servant's heart and served on several church committees from the benevolence committee and bible study groups to serving Wednesday night meals to church members. Mary’s niece wrote sentiments of her grandmother that ring true for our Nanny. “Today, you gave me the words to help me through the rest of my winters without you. As I ran my hand through your soft white hair trying to comfort you, and instead you comforted me. In a trembly voice and with all your heart, you told me you loved me.” Mary’s love for her grandchildren will continue on in their hearts and minds.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Jack; her parents; and one brother, Bill Britton. She is survived by two sons, Arnold D. McCowan, Jr. and Anna Odle of Lebanon, MO and George G. & wife Sissy Wheat of Augusta, GA; two daughters, Shonnie P. and husband James T. Dansby of Urbana, MO and Nancy C. and husband Bob Green of Jacksonville, FL; two brothers, Embree and wife Yvonne Weeks of Evans, GA and Danny and wife Lynn Meeks of Waynesboro, GA; two sisters, Rachel Daniel of Martinez, GA and Patsy Blount of Waynesboro, GA; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
