Mary L. Maestas (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Mary Louise Maestas, daughter of Alfred Calvin and Gladys Bradley Mayfield, was born September 1, 1948, in Iowa City, Iowa. She departed this life Wednesday, January 18, 2017, in the Rehabilitation Center of Independence, in Independence, Missouri, at the age of sixty-eight years, four months, and seventeen days.
Her parents preceded her in death.
Mary is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Lawson, of Pleasant Hope, Missouri; four sons, John and Walter Shoemaker, both of Independence, Missouri, Clifford Sage, II and Larry Dewater, both of Versailles, Missouri; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was raised in various locations as her family settled wherever there was work. In her adult years, she had lived in Virginia, Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, Illinois, Oklahoma, and Missouri. In addition to being a devoted homemaker to her family, Mary also owned and operated a taxi cab company for awhile. She had also worked as a cab driver. While living in Colorado she was the manager of the Circle K Convenience Store. After moving to Missouri, she worked with her daughter in the cab business for as long as her health allowed.
In her spare time she enjoyed playing Bingo, fishing, hunting, and cooking. She loved being in the center of her family. She was outgoing, independent, and dependable. She lived a very simple, dignified life. She loved her family dearly and greatly enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mary was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them during her lifetime.
A memorial has been established and contributions may be made through the funeral home.
