Mary Ann McHaffie, the daughter of Hiram Otto and Ada Celeste (Peck) McDonald, was born February 12, 1923, near Rogersville, Missouri. She departed this life Tuesday, August 18, 2009, at Glenwood Healthcare in Seymour, Missouri, at the age of eighty-six years, six months, and six days. On August 19, 1939, she was united in marriage to Marvin McHaffie, and together they spent (lacking one day) seventy wonderful years. One daughter, Patsy, was born to this union. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Chesley McDonald. Mary Ann is survived by her loving husband, Marvin, of the home; her daughter, Pat Steward, and her husband, Wayne, of Fordland, Missouri; her two grandchildren, Brent Steward and Sonya Cass, both of Fordland, Missouri; a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; as well as a host of other relatives and many dear friends. She had accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Fordland, Missouri. Mary Ann was born near Rogersville and spent her younger years in California. She later moved to Fordland and married Marvin, and lived the rest of her life in the area. She and Marvin owned and operated a large dairy and beef farm in Fordland since 1942. She loved working on the farm and especially enjoyed helping Marvin count the cattle and doing farm chores. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, gardening, reading, and loved shopping at the mall in Springfield. After entering Glenwood, she liked to play bingo with the other residents. Mary Ann was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and sister, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories she has created for her family and many dear friends. Services will be held at 2:00pm on Friday August 21, 2009 at the Holman-Howe Funeral home in Seymour. Burial will be in the Fordland cememtery. Visitation Thursday evening 6-8:00pm under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home Seymour, Missouri. Return to top
