Charity López
She didn’t let most people call her Maria, but somehow, we were on the list of those allowed to call her that. Maria and her sweet mother, also Maria, attended church with us for some time.
One day, she invited us to her apartment so she could teach me how to make her homemade enchilada sauce. I’ll never forget her “getting on to” me because I added the garlic too soon and now her whole apartment was going to smell like garlic.
I believe the last time I saw her was in 2007 just before our family traveled to Mexico. She told me very firmly that she was going to be praying for our safety and followed that statement with a bunch of safety tips…which came in very handy on the trip.
The last I spoke to her she told me she was selling her home and considering moving away. I have looked for her several times and had never been able to find her, then unintentionally came across this online memorial just now. I was surprised to see she had still been in the area.
Rest in peace Maria.
To the family, please accept my sincerest condolences.
