Mary Riggs (Lebanon)'s Obituary
Mary June Riggs was born June 18, 1928 in Eldridge, Missouri to her parents, John T. Young and Gracie M. Grimes Young. After a long life of ninety-six years and four months, she passed away in Lebanon South Nursing and Rehab in Lebanon, Missouri.
Mary professed her faith at the old Pentecostal Church in Eldridge. She loved God and looked forward to spending eternity in Heaven. She was an active member of Living Water Pentecostal Church and loved singing in church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Gracie Young; her brother, Delmer; her four sisters, Hazel, Julie, Vurlis and Lois; and a special friend, Herb Childress.
She is survived by her niece and caregiver, Peggy Arnold and her husband David of Lebanon, Missouri and a nephew, Charles Waterman of Lebanon, Missouri; as well as many other nieces and nephews.
Mary grew up in the Eldridge community and graduated from Lebanon High School. Following high school, she moved to LeClaire, Iowa and then Portland, Oregon before returning home to Eldridge where she would begin her long career as a waitress at Tan Tara Resort on Lake of the Ozarks. She enjoyed her work there and received many awards.
Mary loved attending gospel sings and family events. She also liked taking her nieces on shopping trips. Throughout her life, Mary was known for her unwavering dedication to her family. She loved her family very much and looked forward to special events when they all could be together. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and know her family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories she made with them.
Service for Mary J. Riggs will be Thursday, October 24, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1 – 2 p.m. Burial will be in Hufft Cemetery.
A memorial to Hufft Cemetery or Living Waters Pentecostal Church has been established and donations may be left at the funeral home.
