Mary Maude Turner (Seymour)'s Obituary
Mary Maude (Holdt) Turner, age 96 of Seymour, Missouri passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Glenwood Health Care with her children by her side.
Mary was born Sunday, February 12, 1922 in Ava, Douglas County, Missouri to George R. Holdt and Sarrah Elizabeth (Weaver) Holt, one of their nine children.
Mary met her future husband Lloyd in February of 1945 at a local café in Seymour. Lloyd was home from serving in the Army during World War II on a 30-day leave. After knowing each other for 20 days, they eloped on a rainy stormy Saturday night to Hartville to get married before he had to return to duty. They had borrowed a pickup truck from a friend at the café to go to Hartville that night, returning to Seymour before the show was over at the Owen Theatre. A friend kept their secret for 3 days before word got out! When Lloyds leave was up, he showed up at Jefferson Barracks to get his new orders, there were none, so they paid him for another 30 day leave and sent him home to his new bride. When that leave was up, he got his new orders and went to Europe to serve our country. He came home in November of 1945 when the war was over and he and Mary lived happily for a total of 49 years and 8 months before Lloyd’s passing.
She spent many an hour quilting with a local group as well as being a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Rebekah’s Lodge. She had her church membership with Seymour 1st Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lloyd on November 8, 1994 as well as her 4 brothers and 4 sisters.
Surviving Mary are is her daughter Delores Turner of Seymour and her son Lloyd Wayne Turner also of Seymour; a sister-in-law Lois Holdt of Caldwell, Idaho as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
