Mary Wakefield (Hartville)'s Obituary
Mary Virginia Wakefield, beloved wife of Reverend Richard L. (Dick) Wakefield, departed this life peacefully and surrounded by family on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at the Hartville Care Center. Mary was seventy-six years, eleven months, and twenty-nine days of age.
One of five children, Mary was born to William Edgar and Lydia Amie (Adams) Hanna on June 6, 1937, in Dyer County, Tennessee. She graduated from South Side High School in Jackson, Tennessee in 1957. She was united in marriage to Dick in Malesus, Tennessee, in 1959, and to this union four children were born. Later a foster son was added to the family unit. The Wakefield’s remained in the state while Dick completed his college work and then moved to Indiana. Later they would move to Bowling Green, Kentucky. Following Seminary training, they returned to Tennessee where they served churches in Nashville and Henderson. In 1977, they moved to Cabool, Missouri where they lived for eleven years. This was followed by a move to Nixa, where they retired and came home to Hartville.
Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church, Mansfield. She loved babies, and worked in Church nurseries in most of the churches where they served. She was a devoted pastor’s wife who was very dedicated to her husband and children. She was happiest spending time with her family and was known as an excellent pie baker and all around good cook.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her brother, Joe Hanna.
Mary leaves behind her ever-loving husband of nearly fifty-five years, Dick Wakefield; son, Michael Glenn Wakefield and wife Patricia, of Thompson Station, Tennessee; son, Timothy Scott Wakefield and wife Becky, of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; son, Thomas Edward Jones and wife Sarah, of Bolivar, Missouri; daughter, Mitzi Paige Wakefield, of Linn Creek, Missouri; and son, Richard Stephen Wakefield and wife Donetta, of Phillipsburg, Missouri; twelve grandchildren; Hannah, Zach, Maddy, Joshua, Abby, Jordyn, Paige, Sam, Carlson, John, Jacob, and Makenzie; siblings, Adelene Chambers of Dyersburg, Tennessee; Duward Hanna of Jackson, Tennessee; and Eunice Wells of Oakfield, Tennessee; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and a host of friends and neighbors.
Mary was a loving wife, adoring mother, grandmother, caring sister, and a friend to all she met. We honor her on this day to remember and celebrate a live well-lived. Her legacy lives on through her family and the many memories she created for us. She will be deeply missed by all who were blessed enough to know her.
